"Past Mystery" Investigation!!!

The teacher creates a short mystery or crime scenario. The students use the Past Perfect Simple and Continuous to explain what happened before the events in the story.

  • The manager walked into the office at 8 AM. Papers were scattered across the floor, a chair was knocked over, and a coffee cup was still warm on the desk.
  • The bakery window was smashed, but no money was taken. The grand wedding cake was completely missing, and there were white powder traces on the sidewalk.
  • The train conductor opened passenger room 4B. The window was open, a half-eaten meal was on the table, and the passenger had vanished.
